Women's Environmental Network (WEN) presents The True Cost

Wednesday, March 9, 2016, 6pm
St Hilda's East Community Centre, Shoreditch, London, United Kingdom
Tickets: £5
Panel discussion featuring Safia Minney, MBE, founder of People Tree; Orsola de Castro, from Fashion Revolution; and Rénee Cuoco, from the Centre for Sustainable Fashion

Back by popular demand, the Women's Environmental Network (WEN) presents the latest in our series of film screenings! This time, we bring you The True Cost, a ground-breaking documentary asking us who pays the real price for our clothing, the people who make it and the impact the fashion industry has on the environment. When the clothes we buy and wear tell a story about the ways we identify and define ourselves, what stories are NOT being told?

It's our pleasure to invite you for an evening of thought-provoking discussion, with drinks, snacks, and a scintillating panel of speakers. We at WEN are thrilled that our line-up will include the wonderful Safia Minney, MBE, founder of People Tree; Orsola de Castro, from Fashion Revolution; and Rénee Cuoco, from the Centre for Sustainable Fashion!

Tickets are £5, just so we can cover the costs of our event (plus Eventbrite charges VAT, so your ticket will cost you just £6.47). You'll have access to the screening, the speakers, some fabulous ethical fashion stalls, some delicious snacks and - most importantly - a free glass of wine! We sold out pretty quickly last time (if we do say so ourselves), so grab your ticket RIGHT NOW to avoid missing out!

The True Cost

This is a story about clothing. It’s about the clothes we wear, the people who make them and the impact it’s having on our world. The price of clothing has been decreasing for decades, while the human and environmental costs have grown dramatically. The True Cost is a groundbreaking new documentary film that pulls back the curtain on an unseen part of our world and asks us each to consider, who pays the price for our clothing?

Filmed in countries all over the world, from the brightest runways to the darkest slums, and featuring interviews with the world’s leading influencers including Stella McCartney, Livia Firth, Vandana Shiva and many more, The True Cost is an unprecedented project that invites us on an eye-opening journey into the lives of the many people and places behind our clothes.
