FREE and open to the public

Through the lens of the textile industry, the documentary The True Cost revolves around sustainability and does a beautiful job of showing the link between the environment, the economy, and society. It also looks into the link between issues ranging from poverty, hunger, unjust treatment of women in third world nations, mental health of communities and suicide by farmers to destruction of the environment by widespread use of GMOs and pesticides. The fast-fashion industry has direct links with all these issues.

The True Cost appeals to college students, faculty, staff, community members, and business owners because most of us are not aware of the immense impact of the fast fashion industry. We have the power to make ethical choices and stand for human rights and social justice.

The True Cost is presented by University of Iowa Environmental Coalition, Associated Residence Halls, Student Government, Fraternity & Sorority Student Life, and Just Living with support from NextGen Climate, Student Gardeners, Net Impact, Office of Sustainability, KRUI, Active Minds, American Marketing Association, Human Rights Student Collective, UI Feminist Union, and Student Video Productions.

This is part of UI's Earth Month activities.
